Dick the Fisherman
Name: Richard ‘Dick’ Scarborough
Age: 62
Profession: Fisherman
Residence: By the lake in a small shack that rents boats and fishing gear. He also carries diving gear but doesn’t usually rent it out.
Other: Lost his left leg to something in the lake, and now goes out every day to try and catch it. Actually, the only reason he lives by the lake’s because he wants his leg back from whatever took it, although he doesn’t entirely know what it was.
Role: The player receives/takes Dick’s diving mask, perhaps after venturing out into the depths of the lake to find and slay the beast.
Personality: Dick’s a pretty easy going guy, but now that he’s getting on in his years he’s becoming more and more protective of his diving gear, despite not using it anymore. He’s always plotting ways to get back what he’s lost, and because he doesn’t know what it was, he has an excuse to research and plan for ever, without acting on any of it. He gets little pleasure from renting out his boats, but he loves to take people out on tours of the lake to have a good yarn, and maybe, if he thinks he’s found the person that can kill his mystery-beast, he’ll ask for their help. So far there have only been 3 that he’s deemed capable and trustworthy, but they’ve all declined his invitation. After each one said no, Dick enters a rage and tells them never to return. So ultimately he’s got something of a short fuse, but he’s just acting out his frustrations on other people. Besides, the story of the lake’s beast is the only one he has to regale customers with, and what’s a story without an ending?

Cole Gladesby
Name:
Age: 27
Profession: Work at the local inn.
Residence: He lives about ½ a kilometre from the inn in a house like any other. His father owned it, but when he died and his older brother left to try and find fame and glory any way he could it fell to him.
Other: The main character. Unknown to him, he’s a schizophrenic who’s killed a friend’s baby, and consequently begins a strange journey to find the truth. Along the way he tries to be a good Samaritan by helping a boy find his dog and lending an old fisherman a hand, but not all is as it seems, and things quickly go south.
Role: The player’s character and also the driving force behind the game’s chain of events.
Personality: Generally well-liked, he’s usually pretty quiet, but he’s always willing to have a conversation from behind the bar at the local inn. It might be more because he feels he has to, but he’s come across some pretty interesting stories in the years that he’s worked there, so he doesn’t mind. He’s made most of his friends from working in the inn once they’ve gotten a bit liquored up, but that’s really the only time he feels kike he can let go a little, after all, they probably won’t remember much of it anyway.

Mother
Name: Josephine ‘Josie’ Mary Cahille
Age: 25
Profession: Mostly a housekeeper, sells jam at the market.
Residence: A medium-sized cottage in town. She lives there with her husband who’s currently away on a fishing trip (he’s a sailor and it’s carp season). She has more than enough money until he gets back, but, as always, she insists on selling jam that she makes from the plants she cultivates in the small patch at the back of their house. This house is where the initial murder takes place, specifically in the nursery when Cole is asked to run an errand by Josephine.
Other: Josephine returns as a boss later in the mod, but before that she’s not seen outside of the inn.
Role: Enabler and later a boss, Josie is pivotal in establishing the alternate world as one that exists solely in Cole’s mind.
Personality:  Bashful, she feels uncomfortable asking Cole to take her produce back to her house. She’s adamant to keep contributing monetarily to her and her husband’s lives, but she’ll only ever tell him that it’s a hobby, because she knows that he’ll ask her to stop if he discovers the truth. She often has good conversations with Cole, usually about general happenings around town, which he hears a lot of working in the tavern of the inn. She has a few friends, but they’re mostly people who regularly buy her jam or are near her when she’s doing so. Besides that, she’s still very close with her sisters: 1 older and 1 younger, although the younger one acts mature beyond her, or Josephine’s, age.

Boy
Name: Ikarus Stone
Age: 11
Profession: He does odd jobs for his father on their land outside of both the forest and town. His mother heckles him to become learned, so she takes him into town whenever she gets the chance.
Residence: With his parents and a couple of hands in their house on their land. It’s nice, larger than average and well-made. Just about the only thing out of place or wrong with it is the end of the path that Ikarus finished for his dad.
Other: Has a dog named Skippy who’s pretty much his best friend, although the farmhands spend a lot of time with him, if they didn‘t have to treat him like he owned them when his father was around they’d probably be pretty good friends.
Role: Enabler. Ultimately he dies, or rather is killed, by Cole. Before that, he asks Cole to help him find his dog who ran off into the forest after a chicken he let escape accidently.  He’s probably making a big deal out of nothing, lately his father’s business has been growing faster than ever with the town, so he’s not likely to get too mad over a single chicken. At any rate, he feels the need to find the dog who will hopefully have caught the chicken, which he can ask his mother to cook for dinner and no one will be any the wiser. A wily plan indeed.
Personality: Usually sort of happy-go-lucky, when he’s working for his father he feels like he has to live up to the amount of hard work his father had to do to get to where he is now. He’s surprisingly gently, his mother’s influence. One day he wants to grow the town and the farm into the main trade district for miles. That might be more his father’s thought, but he figures that if that happens he’ll have the chance to joust, and hopefully lure his brother back home with one of his competitions. This brother (Percy) left home just a year ago, but it’s been pretty hard on Ikarus. Not to mention that his mother’s none to happy with the amount of study that he’s been doing; she really expects him to be an example for the other boys around town that aren’t so lucks as to have what he does. With all of these pressures Ikarus is made to govern their township, a real leader, it really is too bad that he’ll never have that chance to live up to that potentional.
