Yo Chris,
I just realised that the player really doesn't have a legitimate reason to want to go on the boat.
So I figured that maybe his "fishing quest" could involve going on to the boat, and you never finish the quest, you "accidentally" kill the fisherman, end up in the water, and are forced to fend for yourself (search near an underwater ship wreckage for a helmet, before you drown).
Unless you can think of a reason for the player wanting to go to the docks. Our game seems to basically be the player stumbling from one place to the other, with no real goal. Which makes it kind of difficult to continue the story without "accidents".
So, I might just make a few changes to the conversation so you end up on the boat with the fisherman, if that's cool with everyone? Thanks heaps though. Also, all the area stuff is probably more important, so don't stress with conversations.
..and, you came very close to a "Live Long and Prosper" moment. :p
